How to Create a Skincare Routine for Yourself That Actually Works for Your Skin
Okay, let’s get real here skincare is a lot sometimes. So products, so advice, and you’re not really sure what is even that good for the skin. The truth? You do not need a million steps. You need to know your skin, and you need to keep things simple.
At Skin Care Club, we’re all about making skincare simple and individualized not daunting. Here’s how to develop a routine that’s right for you, step by step.
Step One: Identify Your Skin Type
This is where you start. Your face type decides what you should (and shouldn’t) apply to your face. Not clear? Here’s the lowdown on how to determine that:
-
Oily – Your face is oily, most noticeably around noon. You may end up with blackheads or acne.
-
Dry – Your skin is tight, rough, or flaky, especially after washing.
-
Combination – A mix of both: oily in the T-zone, but dry cheeks.
-
Sensitive – You tend to respond fast to products or weather conditions.
-
Normal – You’re a lucky individual! You’ve got balanced skin.
If you’re not quite certain, come on down to the Skin Care Club. We’ll give you a quick look and help you sort it out hassle free.
Step Two: Starting from the Basics
All skin types need the same three things: a good cleanse, hydration, and protection from the sun.
-
Cleanser
Wash your face in the Am and before you go to bed. It keeps the dirt, oil, and face gunk the things that get in your pores away. Don’t scrub so hard, and avoid anything that makes your skin super dry or taut. -
Moisturizer
Yes, we all need a moisturizer. Oily skin too. It balances and protects the skin. The light, gel types of moisturizers are best for oily skin, and the thicker creams are best for parched skin. -
Sunscreen (AM only)
This one’s non-negotiable. UV rays don’t care if it’s cloudy they’re still there, and they cause damage over time. Use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every single morning. Your future self will thank you.

Step Three: Add Extras (If You Want)
Once you establish the basics, you’re then able to add in other products, if necessary, based on the concerns of your skin.
-
Toner – Tightens the pores, oil control, good for combination or oily skin.
-
Serums – These are concentrated products that address such issues as spots, acne, or dullness.
-
Exfoliators – Once or twice weekly, use them to get rid of dead skin cells and to make your products work better.
-
Face Masks – A lovely little pick-me-up for your face when you need a face mask.
Do not attempt all of them at once. The skin takes time to adjust.
Step Four: Get Serious About Waiting
Skincare isn’t magic it’s gradual. Allow the routine a number of weeks before you decide if you’re doing anything or not. And do not give up if you’re having a breakout. That does not necessarily mean the product is terrible the skin is taking time.
